How I Work with Couples

I don’t just mediate arguments (though I will);

I help you look under the hood of your relationship. My approach integrates three powerful modalities tailored for two:

  • IFS for Couples (Intimacy from the Inside Out): We explore the "protector parts" that show up during conflict—like the one that lashes out in anger or the one that shuts down and withdraws. By helping each partner speak for their parts rather than from them, we create space for the Core Self to lead the relationship with compassion.

  • Somatic Awareness: Conflict is a physiological event. We learn to track the "high alert" states in your nervous systems during sessions, slowing down the conversation so you can stay regulated and connected even when discussing difficult topics.

  • Relational Repair: We focus on the "relational space" between you, processing past hurts to unburden the relationship from old wounds and triggers.

What Makes You the Expert?

I’m not. You are the expert on your relationship.

However, I have been using these concepts and skills we will work on together with couples over the past 2 years.

And more importantly in my own relationship over the past 10 years.

Do I always show up in a Self-led space with Compassion and Curiosity.

Most definitely I do not.

However, I have seen how transformative continually coming back to these skills for relational repair have improved my own marriage. I also have seen how the temperature in the room drops back to normal when couples start to speak for their parts rather than attack from them.

Relationships and marriage aren’t easy. I’m here as an unbiased third party to facilitate conversation and deeper connection.

Couples Counseling FAQ

    • Session Length: 90 minutes - typically twice a month

    • Rate: $225

    • Note on Insurance: As noted in my FAQ, couples counseling is a self-pay service and is generally not covered by insurance as it does not meet the criteria for "medical necessity" for an individual diagnosis.

  • Yes. For couples in crisis or those wanting to make significant headway quickly, I offer half-day or multi-day intensives. This allows us to move past the surface-level "check-in" and get to the core of the relational healing.

  • It is common for one partner to feel more "ready" than the other. My role is not to take sides, but to support the health of the relationship. We start by creating a safe space for both of you to feel heard.

  • Most of my experience is with two people in the room.

I am an LGBTQ+ affirming and CNM-aware provider; however, I recognize that Ethical Non-Monogamy (ENM), Polyamory, and Kink/BDSM require specialized clinical expertise that is outside my primary scope of practice. If you are seeking therapy for a throuple or specialized polyamorous support, I am happy to provide referrals to trusted colleagues who specialize in these dynamics to ensure you receive the most informed care possible.
